Borja Vigil is an artist with a distinctive voice and a compelling gaze. Self-taught, inquisitive, curious, and deeply committed, his work lies at the intersection of artistic intuition, social awareness, and lived experience. His practice—hybrid and unconstrained—emerges from close observation of his surroundings, which he transforms into visual messages designed to provoke questions and awaken consciousness.

Borja came to Buenaventura in search of a visual identity that could unify his multiple facets while expressing how they intertwine to form an inseparable whole. We began with an essential triad: person, artist, activist. This conceptual framework underpins the entire visual system of the project and takes shape in a triple typographic structure.

To visually express this multiplicity, we developed a graphic system rooted in a symbolic structure: a monogram where the initials B and V are fused into a single stroke. This simple graphic gesture encapsulates the expressive complexity of the artist and, like his work, presents the viewer with a visual challenge.

The system is articulated through three custom typefaces, each corresponding to one of the three pillars of the conceptual triad, with a special emphasis on his activism—a vital stance that defines both his work and his character. To achieve this, we researched the visual language of protest posters throughout history and, drawing on the graphic styles of historically significant social movements, we created three typefaces that give voice to the three dimensions of Borja Vigil.

BV #1 is bold, expressive, and full of contrasts—it embodies Borja’s artistic side and his creative language. BV #2 is sober, strong, and full of character—it represents the citizen Borja Vigil, someone grounded, engaged, a listener and an actor. Finally, BV #3 is inspired by 19th-century wood typefaces—large-scale and impactful—paying homage to the social movements that have shaped history.

This typographic triad is complemented by Boogy Brut, an elegant and functional text typeface that supports the system with its neutrality and high legibility.

Borja Vigil’s visual universe is designed not to compete with his work, but to enhance it—giving it the space it needs to be fully experienced. The color palette is deliberately restrained, dominated by black and white, with occasional accents of color in specific applications. The identity unfolds with subtlety and force, ensuring that the artistic narrative retains its natural prominence.
